Past Student Work - Lew Parker
Viva Brother:
Lew's video is very clean cut and fitting with his choice of music genre. His use of editing and cuts match well with the rhythm and beat, such as it's slow during lines that are sung slowly and sped up when it gets faster.
The mix of concept and performance style in this simple yet effective video fit well also as the song sounds alternate/indie rock and this is usually the sort of video style you'd expect from this song. I noticed they are all wearing denim too creating a visual style for their band.
I like how it isn't too complicated with too many special effects as that wouldn't have fit with the song and you'd be able to tell they only added it for marks. I also like how they make good use of their locations and surroundings that they were accessible and walk around town, occasionally singing, sometimes giving rude gestures but it works.
Strengths:
Their use of experimenting with editing is what made this video stand out, otherwise it would've been too plain and uninteresting to watch. When they edited clips to speed up and slow down it matched with the music and tone and even the lyrics, for example he says "i'll take it one day at a time" and they are slow paced walking through streets. I also enjoyed their innovative use of reverse at the end that again, contrasted well with the beat.
Weaknesses:
Although I enjoyed the effects they added, their could possibly be too many and makes it look a little chaotic in some places.
I realised that the lead singer tends to look away from the camera to the side a lot and occasionally shots were out of focus but they may have been intended.
Things to avoid:
I do want ours to have great effects that captivate our audience but I am worried we could go overboard. I also want our singer (which will only be one or two lines) to really lip sync well and not look awkward nor uncomfortable, and know the lyrics.
Things we can try to achieve:
As our song is also the same genre as Lew's we can try to make ours look as retro as possible yet still with a twist of modern details. I really liked the adding of the MTV logo in the corner which I think we should include in ours also as it's a popular channel where everyone watches new music videos apart from YouTube.

Creating the time lapse
To create the time lapse we have placed it into final cut pro and sped the clip up to 8000%. Due to there being little wind on the day it was filmed, it needed to be sped up a lot. As we are using black and white throughout our video, we have added this on. We lowered the exposure to make clouds stand out more and darker.

Production Schedule
This is our inital production schedule, it only includes shots that we will film without the actors. We will organise further filming dates for the October half-term once our actors are confirmed.

Possible band names
As we have chosen our own band we have to create a name for them that will suit the style we are going for. These are some possible names we are going to use:
- unmasked
- the runners
- arctic skulls
- the endless mountain
Here is a survery we created to help us decide our band name:
